Anamaria Richardson, MD

Pediatrician, Medical Director

I graduated from UBC Pediatrics Training, as a "mature" student - which means I know what it is like to balance life and kids. I used to be a teacher, and have worked many odd jobs. I went into medicine to work towards a more equitable future, and hopefully this will be the future. I graduated from UBC Medicine, having done my training in Prince George, then completed my Pediatrics training in Vancouver. Previously I was a teacher, and also have a botany degree! I have been working at BCCH in Complex Care and in Biochemical Diseases since graduation. I also sit on numerous tables and boards, again interested in health equity.

I have a master’s degree in molecular genetics from the University of Toronto and completed my pediatrics residency at the University of Saskatchewan, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Hospital Medicine at BC Children’s Hospital through the University of British Columbia. Since then, I have been working on the inpatient unit at BC Children’s Hospital, in addition to being a consultant community pediatrician in Vancouver. In addition to inpatient pediatrics, I have an interest in medical education and quality improvement. I grew up in BC, and I am happy be able to use my training and experience to support the children, youth, and families in my community.

Family Nurse Practitioner

I graduated from the UBC school of Nursing (where I first met Anamaria) in 2010. I worked at BC Children's Hospital in the ER primarily, and at Canuck Place Children's Hospice. I loved nursing, but wanted to explore further education and gain a bigger scope of practice. I graduated from the UBC Master's of Nursing Program with my Nurse Practitioner certification in 2019, and joined Granville Medical Clinic in 2020.

Esther Kim, MD

Psychiatrist

I was born and raised in London, Ontario. I completed my medical degree at University of Calgary and general Psychiatry residency at University of Alberta in Edmonton. I moved to Vancouver to pursue a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship before committing to working part time between the Neuropsychiatry Clinic at BC Children’s Hospital and community Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In my downtime, I enjoy spending time with my family, training my adolescent velociraptor of a dog, trying new foods, and being humbled by Mother Nature.

Agnieszka Kowalczyk, MD

Pediatrician

I grew up in Saskatoon and come from a family with Polish roots. I completed my pediatric residency training in Chicago, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at Boston Children's Hospital.

Since returning to Canada, I have worked in both community pediatrics and pediatric sports medicine and orthopedic care, including at RebalanceMD and BC Children's Hospital. I am also a Clinical Instructor at the University of British Columbia.

My interest in working with children began long before medicine. Prior to becoming a physician, I taught piano and Polish language lessons and worked as a figure skating coach. I have always enjoyed teaching and mentoring young people, and those experiences continue to influence how I work with children, adolescents, and their families.

My practice focuses on general pediatrics, including developmental, behavioural, mental health, and school-related concerns. I enjoy getting to know children and adolescents as individuals and partnering with families to develop practical plans that fit their goals and everyday lives.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy dancing, skiing, hiking, volleyball, surfing, and exploring the West Coast.

Renee Lurie, MD

Pediatrician

I was born and raised in Toronto, and completed medical school at the University of Ottawa, before moving out west for my pediatrics residency at the University of British Columbia. I completed a fellowship in Social Pediatrics and Pediatric Hospital Medicine at BC Children’s Hospital through the Hudson Family Trainee Program, where I focused on improving care for children who are new to Canada, exploring ways to better support their complex health and social needs across both inpatient and outpatient settings. I have trained across urban and rural sites, including outreach work throughout BC and in Australia.

I am currently working in hospital and community settings across British Columbia, including at Lion’s Gate Hospital and BC Children’s Hospital. I am interested in making care easier to access for families who face challenges navigating the health care system. Alongside my clinical work, I am passionate about teaching and mentorship of medical students and residents, supporting their journey to become future compassionate clinicians. Outside of work, I love travelling and exploring new places, running, hiking, and baking.

Justina Marianayagam, MD

Pediatrician

I completed my medical degree at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and my Pediatrics Residency training at the University of British Columbia in 2026.

In addition to building my outpatient practice, I work as a Pediatric Complex Pain Physician at BC Children's Hospital. My clinical and research interests include developmental pediatrics, pediatric pain, and health systems improvement.

During residency, I began specialized autism assessment training through the BC Autism Assessment Network (BCAAN) and continue to train at Sunny Hill Health Centre toward becoming a Qualified Specialist. My goal is to provide autism assessments for children and youth across rural and northern British Columbia.
I am also excited to continue supporting Dr. Richardson's outreach clinics in Bella Coola and Fort St. John, having first joined her there as a resident. Her commitment to improving access for children and families in rural communities inspired my own passion for outreach pediatrics.

In addition to my outpatient practice, I remain active in acute care through 24-hour hospital-based shifts across the Lower Mainland, including the NICU and inpatient pediatrics.

I believe that a child's postal code should not determine their access to pediatric expertise and am committed to helping families receive timely, high-quality care, wherever they live.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time on Mudge Island with friends and keeping an eye out for passing orcas while checking my prawn traps. Having grown up fishing the lakes of the Northwest Territories, I am now learning the finer points of ocean fishing along the BC coast.

Meryline Ndlovu, MBChB

Pediatrician

I am a pediatrician and pediatric respirologist with a passion for helping live healthier lives. I completed my medical and specialist training at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, where I qualified as a pediatrician in 2017 and as a pediatric respirologist in 2020.

My clinical experience spans both hospital and community settings, with a strong focus on the diagnosis and management of pediatric respiratory conditions such as asthma, chronic cough, and other lung-related disorders.

Since relocating to British Columbia in 2022, I have been working at Burnaby Hospital and in a community clinic. I greatly value the opportunity to serve the local community and collaborate with families, healthcare teams, and specialists to provide comprehensive care for children of all ages.

Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy travelling and exploring the beautiful landscapes of British Columbia. Discovering new places and connecting with people from different backgrounds continually inspires my work and broadens my perspective as a healthcare professional.

I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from BCIT in 2016. During my time as a nurse, I worked primarily at BC Children's Hospital in Oncology and Hematology. As much as I enjoyed working as a nurse, I always knew my end goal was to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. In my spare time, I love to bike, hike and do all things outdoors

I enjoy collecting trading cards in my free time and have spent many hours with my friends doing so. Another thing that I am fond of is eating, I like to go to good quality restaurants and have a good meal.
